Moxi
Offered at our convenient location in San Antonio, TX
Moxi is a laser that utilizes fractionated light to minimize the appearance of age spots and uneven texture from sun damage. It is one of the gentlest lasers available, letting you enjoy its “prejuvenation” benefits no matter your skin type. It can serve as both an anti-aging preventative treatment and a complementary touch-up if you have undergone a more aggressive laser option, like Sciton Joule X. With the low-level power of Moxi, you may not even require topical anesthesia or any downtime for recovery. The treatment is ideal if you have a busy lifestyle but want to attain the coveted radiant glow that comes from years of good skincare. It can be a great addition to a more comprehensive skin resurfacing treatment plan with another laser or microneedling device.
If you are new to the world of skin resurfacing lasers, requesting a session with Moxi at Alluring Aesthetics can be an excellent start. The helpful and knowledgeable aestheticians at our San Antonio location serve patients with a variety of skincare needs, helping mAlluring Aestheticsen and women feel more confident in how they present themselves to the world. Our facility is led by the expertise of Dr. Wendie Grunberg, an expert in advanced body sculpting and VASER liposuction techniques.

About Moxi Technology
Moxi is one of Sciton’s latest technologies, making its debut in 2021. It incorporates non-ablative light energy, so it only targets the inner layer of skin, the dermis, but it leaves the epidermis unharmed. As the light comes into contact with the treatment area, it creates precise micro-injuries within the dermis, triggering the fibroblast cells to create more collagen and other connective fibers- the building blocks of youthful skin. Since the epidermis remains intact, it serves as a natural dressing for these microscopic injuries, providing a protective layer for a faster recovery.
With the increased influx of these fibers, the skin boosts its rate of cellular turnover and gradually improves complexion and texture after every session. The light also distributes in a fractionated pattern, sparing the surrounding skin and further encouraging faster regenerative processes. (1) The light itself disperses in 1927 nm wavelengths, long enough wavelengths to be gentle enough for all skin types. Studies have found that this wavelength can serve as a safe and effective means of treating hyperpigmentation issues for darker skin types. (2) Your skin care specialist can complete the entire treatment in just 8 to 10 minutes, making it an ideal lunchtime procedure that will not leave your skin significantly irritated or peeling.
Moxi Treatment Levels
Your laser technician can adjust the device’s energy output (mJ) and density of the fractionated light pattern (measured in %) to accommodate your specific skin type and the type of rejuvenation you would like to achieve:
- Level 1. The prevent & refresh setting is the lowest feature on the device, utilizing 5 to 10 mJ at 5 to 10% density. The area is treated with 4 to 5 passes.
- Level 2. This is the revitalize & maintain setting, a solid middle-ground for those who want the moderate benefits of Moxi. It uses 10 to 15 mJ of power at 10 to 15% density. Just like level 1, technicians make 4 to 5 passes on the treatment area.
- Level 3. The transform & renew setting is the most comprehensive treatment available on the device. It involves 15 to 20 mJ of power at 15 to 20% density. It requires 6 to 8 passes to work at its full potential
Modifying the Moxi level can allow technicians to effectively treat different areas with varying skin thicknesses. With these highly customizable features, you can resurface almost any part of the body, including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.
Candidates
If you are looking to reverse mild sun damage and prevent more noticeable signs of aging from settling in, Moxi is an incredible option for you. Usually, the device works best if you are within the 20 to 40-year-old age range since deeper wrinkles have yet to settle in. If you have active acne, you should wait until the condition has completely cleared. If you have a more aged face, you may want to explore Alluring Aesthetics’ Sciton Joule X treatment which is another device that can utilize ablative technology with its Contour TRL or ProFractional features. This means that it ablates both the dermis and epidermis, so it requires more recovery, but it can resolve more significant wrinkles and pigmentation issues.
Personal Consultation
When you schedule a consultation with one of the skincare experts, you can expect to receive a thorough evaluation of your skin issues and your skincare needs. They will ask you about your expected results from a treatment session with Moxi, and they will outline their recommended treatment plan.
If you have more questions about the device, please come prepared to ask our experts. Preparation
To ensure optimal results and minimize any potential risks, it is important to follow the pre-treatment guidelines provided by Dr. Grunberg and her team. These may include:
- Discontinuing the use of certain skincare products or medications, if advised.
- Avoiding excessive sun exposure and using sunscreen diligently in the weeks leading up to the treatment. You should invest in a high-quality, antioxidant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more, depending on your skin tone.
- Informing your specialist about any history of a virus on or near the treatment area. They may prescribe an antiviral medication to prevent the laser from triggering another breakout.
Procedure Steps
The Moxi procedure is relatively quick and easy. At your appointment, your laser technician will cleanse the treatment area. They may offer you a topical anesthetic, but it is highly probable that the procedure will be completely tolerable even if you do not use one. You may just feel warm, prickling sensations with every laser pulse. Then, they will hand you protective goggles so you can shield your eyes from the harsh laser light. Finally, they will apply Moxi’s light window directly to your skin, making smooth passes and administering pulses over the skin. After treatment, they will apply a soothing balm to protect the skin and facilitate healing.
Recovery and Results
One of the significant advantages of Moxi is the minimal downtime associated with the treatment. You can expect to resume your daily activities immediately following the procedure. However, it is common for the treated skin to appear slightly red or have a mild sunburn-like sensation for a few hours to a day after treatment. In some cases, you may experience slight swelling or minor flaking over the next couple of days, which you can manage with gentle cleansing and moisturizing. You should avoid all harsh exfoliants, scrubbing the treatment area, and picking at your skin, since this can increase your post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is crucial to also avoid sun exposure and diligently follow all personalized post-care instructions provided by your laser technician to achieve optimal results.
Your skin might have a slightly rougher feel to it for a few days, but you will be able to continue your usual workout routine as any residual inflammation subsides. Within a week, you should see and feel the beginning effects of smoother, healthier skin. You should notice a significant reduction in the darkness of age spots and other discolorations related to sun damage. Your technician will likely recommend 3 or 4 sessions as part of your treatment plan, but it will mostly depend on your personal rejuvenation goals. After your final results completely settle in, you may want to consider follow-up treatments once or twice a year to maintain your youthful glow.
Corresponding and Complementary Treatments
Sciton Joule X
Sciton Joule X is a laser platform that includes three technologies that can more comprehensively address a variety of aesthetic concerns: BBL Hero, Contour TRL, and ProFractional lasers. While the BBL is another non-ablative anti-aging treatment, the Contour TRL and ProFractional lasers are equipped to provide both superficial and deep resurfacing. With its more intense treatments, you can expect to take more downtime, but you can expect to see improved tightening/lifting effects, a more significant reduction of hyperpigmentation, and a resolution in atrophic scars, like acne scars.
